G.Skill Phoenix - 100 Go

5/5 en Guru of 3D
"Performance was good, really good actually. The drive is a tiny notch slower than OCZ's Vertex 2, but they have their own proprietary design and firmware. Comparing apples to apples, the Vertex 2 might be a tiny bit faster, in real-world usage however that is something you'd never notice."

"As the old saying goes: “If you are given lemons, make lemonade” which is exactly what G.Skill has done after being given a controller with castrated performance. Throwing higher speed NAND at the problem sure isn’t the most elegant solution but it sure as heck worked like a charm. Not only does the Phoenix cost quite a bit less than the Vertex 2 and Corsair F100 but it performs equally in most cases and this to us is a praiseworthy achievement. As such, this is one of the only products to receive all three of our awards: the Dam Good Award, Dam Innovative Award and Dam Good Value. "

"The only problem now is G.Skill caught Lady Luck on a bad day when the M Die gamble didn’t pay off. The Samsung M Die didn’t equate to superior performance and is now acting like an anchor since it causes the drive to use more power. If you are an enthusiast using a desktop computer it isn’t going to matter what kind of power your SSD pulls in next to your 300 watt video card. Notebook users on the other hand aren’t going to feel the same way once they learn that their new SSD could be robbing them of precious battery life"
