Corsair Force F120 - 120 Go

4/5 en Guru of 3D
"See, the reality remains that say an SSD with an Indilinx controller is already massively fast and sufficient in that random IO write performance, and it's only one chunk of the SSD experience where SF1200 really hauls ass. So whether or not you'd notice that performance difference remains to be seen, but sure .. we can definitely measure it with the help of synthetic benchmarks."

"The Corsair F120 can be described as many things but let’s say for the sake of this conclusion that we were very impressed by the numbers it returned. Yes in some certain areas the drive is slightly slower than the 301 firmware-equipped F100, but the difference really won’t affect real world performance all that much. As time goes by it is quite possible that not only will you get a 20% bigger drive by opting for the F120 but also one that is faster as well due to its access to new and improved firmwares. We’re still in the early days of the SF-1222’s lifecycle and it’s quite obvious that SandForce still has a few tricks up their sleeve for the future. "

"Our look at the F120 (120GB) drive shows it to be physically identical to the F100 we reviewed recently. Corsair has effectively taken that drive and provided an additional 20GB of user-accessible capacity by removing most of the generous over-provisioning on the F100. Digging deeper, the F120 now ships with a firmware that is specific to the SandForce SF-1200 controller, rather than the SF-1500-like version on our reviewed Force F100."

"If you had been thinking about picking up the Corsair Force 100GB SSD, the 120GB version should help make that purchasing decision a ton easier. With 20% more available storage, three year warranty, the same great performance and a price per GB ratio that won't make you tear up, we would add this to our short list of recommended SSD's. "

"Without any doubt, the Corsair Force 120GB based on the SandForce SF-1200 controller is the best performer here at Neoseeker's labs. It simply crushed the previous king, the Patriot Torqx. It prevailed in eight out of the ten benchmarks, some of them by a very convincing margin, especially AS SSD, ATTO and PCMark Vantage."

"Corsair could only supply a 120GB sample for our review, although it tells us that, unlike other SSDs, its SandForce controller technology allows the Force Series F120 to perform just as well as 256GB drives with greater scope for parallel write tasks. Nonetheless, it isn't the fastest SSD we've tested in terms of raw performance. And at around £2.60 per GB, it’s also fairly expensive. "

"As it turns out, the Force is not as strong with the F120 as it is with the original F100. The 120GB drive does offer near-identical read performance to its 100GB sibling, but it's slower in both sequential and random writes. That fact doesn't affect program load times or even copying files in Windows 7. However, it does hamper performance with multitasking and multi-user workloads, as evidenced by our DriveBench and IOMeter results."

"It seems it is becoming standard, but I like that Corsair does include the mounting bracket. Many enthusiasts will not part with their old cases, many of which do not have 2.5-inch mounting systems so the inclusion of the mounting bracket is nice."
